24 Nov Newly appointed General School Assistants
Educational assistants were hired in 2020, as part of the Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI). The initiative was introduced by the department as a way to help schools cope with the Covid-19 academic disruptions that took place in 2020.
Through the initiative, the department managed to create over 200 000 jobs for Education Assistants and 100 000 jobs for General School Assistants. The programme, which started in December 2020, came to an end in April with the extension of contracts for screeners and cleaners.
At the end of November General School Assistants were hired to help out for the next term.
