03 Aug Screeners lend a helping hand
Our three screeners helped Mrs. Desire Hattingh (Science teacher) to tidy up her storeroom. This task required them to wear lab jackets and to work with extreme caution. Here is Wayne Maseko, Lynette Mthiyane and Nenekazi Mdluli hard at work.
Educational assistants were hired in 2020, as part of the Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI). The initiative was introduced by the department as a way to help schools cope with the Covid-19 academic disruptions that took place in 2020.
Through the initiative, the department managed to create over 200 000 jobs for Education Assistants and 100 000 jobs for General School Assistants. The programme, which started in December 2020, came to an end in April with the extension of contracts for screeners and cleaners.
